This is not the first time that something like this is happening to Facebook. The Social Networking Site has faced a down run since they announced the IPO. Soon after the lock down period PayPal co-founder and Facebook director Peter Thiel who has been one of the early investor in the social network had sold off about 20 million shares and now it is Dustin Moskovitz, Dustin had started selling off 150,000 shares a day and disclosed the sales every three days. After Including the most recent sales that he made he still holds about 132 million shares.

Dustin Moskovitz who is 28 was Mark Zuckerberg’s Harvard roommate when they founded Facebook in 2004. He had left in 2008 and started the software company Asana. In March 2011 Forbes ranked Moskovitz as the world’s youngest self-made billionaire on the basis of his 7.6% share in Facebook which certainly has gone down after the sales he has made on stocks.

FB shares have seen a down run since Shares of Facebook Inc. since it debut at $38 each in May. They ended Tuesday’s trading at $17.73 which was the lowest that the Facebook stock faced.

Facebook plans to roll out a new advertising tool that will let companies and businesses target their ads to existing customers based on their phone numbers and e-mail addresses.

FB has showed signs that they will be launching the new tool next week and will allow businesses to re-engage with their customers who have already used their services as told by a Facebook Spokesperson.

As usual for those who may doubt FB for privacy concerns over this feature of personal information exchange, FB revealed that this process is secure and safe.

This means that Facebook isn’t sharing any of your data away, it’s taking existing numbers and addresses from businesses and letting those businesses use the information to target its ads.

In fact, Facebook won’t be gaining any new data from businesses. When advertisers give Facebook your data, it is hashed — a security technique that scrambles your data – before it is fed into the advertising machine. Once the ads are placed, Facebook dumps the hashed data, so that if an advertiser wants to do another ad, the process starts over again which will help the customers feel being safe on Facebook.

The new method was available briefly in the Facebook Power Editor, a virtual toolbox used by advertisers to create ads, according to InsideFacebook.

Facebook continues to figure out how to improve its advertising service amid revenue reports and forecasts that have not been up to par as compared to other websites like Google Analytics integration with Adwords.

This is not the only social network that is working on their advertising and business skills its targeted advertising efforts. Twitter expands advertising to a broader audience as well that puts tweets in the streams of a broader audience than before.

So before I write about the post let me tell you how I came up with this post. I was talking to a friend who handles Social Media in a prominent Digital Marketing Agency. We were discussing about the business model which Facebook follows and as everyone knows that Facebook earns from its Advertising. So we ended up talking about which model is better CPC or CPM and that is how I came up with this post.

So let me tell you what is CPC and CPM?

CPM = Cost per thousand impressions. Price you’ll pay for a thousand impressions/views.

CPC = Cost per click. Price you’ll pay for every click on your ad.

When you choose CPM, your ad is charged on impressions. Facebook will throw a lot of impressions because they know they’ll get paid no matter what. With CPM bidding, you’re practically gambling with your Facebook Advertising budget. You might get a great result with great amount of cheap clicks but you also run the risk of spending your entire budget and not getting any clicks at all.

Alternatively, choosing CPC bidding means you only pay when someone clicks on your ad. You’re paying for a deliberate click by someone who wants to see what you have to offer on your landing page. The ROI in this model is better and you have an assurance that your brand , company or product is visible to people. Which is not the case in CPM model.

How to Bid CPC on Facebook Advertising?

I recommend that you keep this as a long time campaign and set a daily spend which could be as little as 10$ and bid for each click as low as 0.01$. Even though the results in such low bids are very low too so you can try starting from 0.50$ a click and as you start getting response you can cut it. You can also use it for “NO CALL TO ACTION” Ads which is a good way to increase your brand appearance on Facebook which will be also named as Branding.

How to Bid CPM on Facebook Advertising?

I will recommend CPM (cost per thousand impressions) model when you have some offer in place. The goal with CPM is exposure. It is a must have a “CALL TO ACTION” so the campaign will be ROI driven.

Facebook IPO in likely to be out in April 2012 .

The report says that Facebook IPO will be raising around $10 billion in an IPO that could value it at more than $100 billion. This is consistent since the last time when it was reported in June that used the same eye-popping number of zeros to describe Facebook’s expected valuation. If we come to think about it, the valuation would make Facebook’s IPO one of the largest in history — more than four times as big as Google’s $23 billion IPO in 2004.

While the first rumors of Facebook IPO predicted that the company would go public during the first quarter of 2012, recent reports had suggested that the offering had been pushed back to “September or later.”

Facebook IPO Impact

The Wall Street Journal‘s sources cautioned that Facebook has not made any final decisions in its internal discussions about the timing of its filing and that market conditions will ultimately decide how much money the company seeks and the value of the company.

The social network states that it is testing a new tool which should be live in coming few weeks that will let you choose three to five friends you trust. If you forget your password or can’t access your email, Facebook will send your friends a code that they can pass along to you.

The new system may not seem more efficient than the usual method but in the case of a hack or a break in your account then this new method can be really helpful to the user. It adds a new layer of security (the feature was announced for National Cybersecurity Awareness Month), too, since your friends can verify your identity more easily than any automated email.

Here The Security firm Sophos makes a valid point that a hacker could also remove or change your trusted friends settings and make the feature useless.

To set up “trusted friends,” go to your Security Settings Page (Account > Account Settings > Security), and click on the Trusted Friends section. From there, you can scroll through your friends and choose up to five. (You may not have access to this just yet — this section doesn’t appear in my settings.)

Facebook offers similar, lesser-known security tools as well, like being able to log out of your account remotely and receive a temporary password for accessing public computers.

The social network also announced this week a new option to use different passwords for third-party apps. To set this up, go to Account Settings, and in the Security tab, go to the App Passwords section.

The factoid was first noted by security site Sophos, was in the context to a note entry while the new security features for the social network were announced. The figure was estimated by a stat showing 0.06% of 1 billion logins per day are compromised which is less than 0.5% of Facebook users experience spam on any given day.

Facebook’s proposed solution for such breaches is to find three to five “trusted friends” which means that a temporary password will be sent to your “Trusted Friend” which are chosen by You. That way, if you’re locked out of your account, your friends will help you to get in. Facebook is also stating that it is testing app passwords that the company will generate on your behalf and you won’t need to remember.

Now on F8 Facebook has launched some new features and basically a Revamp to its old Mundane Slowly changing Profile Page and turning it into Some new named as Timeline. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is about to make some major announcements that will change Facebook as we know it.

The social network has been keeping busy in the lead-up to f8, its annual developer conference. In the past few weeks, the company has revamped Friend Lists, added a real-time ticker, launched changes to News Feed and rolled out a Subscribe button for following anybody’s public updates.

These launches, however, are just a prelude to the real show here in San Francisco. Zuckerberg and his team will reveal their master plan for dominating the social web. It comes at a time when Facebook faces serious competition from Google.
