Facebook Spam - Dislike Button WarningFacebook these days has become home to spammers and the scammers and the spammers are using this huge platform for their benefits. In the recent a new Facebook scam is on the rounds, and it’s taking advantage of a non-existent Facebook feature which many users crave for: the dislike button.

Note: Right now no such feature like an official Facebook dislike button exists.  Facebook might implement a similar feature in the near future, but as of now it is non-existent.

So, if you come across a status update containing the message “I just got the Dislike button, so now I can dislike all of your dumb posts lol!!” or “Get the official DISLIKE button now” followed by a url, you should know that it’s just one of those Facebook dislike button scams. There have been many scams on Facebook lately but The dislike button scam is one of the most viral ones.

Clicking on the url given would land you on an elaborate Facebook dislike button “install” page.  An interesting thing to note here is that if the dislike button was real, you wouldn’t need to install it through such an elaborate process; Facebook would have automatically added it to user profiles like all the other new features. The next step in this scam is giving all the app permissions which leads us to filling a survey which has been a prominent feature in many of the older scams too. We land up posting these updates on others users on Facebook and spamming their walls.Facebook Spam - Dislike Button Warning

What is interesting in this that the, app ultimately points you to an existing Firefox add-on called FaceMod, which dubs itself the “Facebook Dislike Button (the Original). Though this add-on doesn’t seem to be connected to the scam but it is certainly being used as a bait. This add-on could be functional or even dangerous but certainly it is not a feature from Facebook.

What we advise you here that you shouldn’t click on any suspicious links on Facebook unless you know its credibility. Giving away personal information is also not advisable. Everyday one spam or the other seems to be infecting your facebook profile. So be vigilant enough to decide where to click and if you have fallen for some scam like this go and remove it from your news feed.
